usual food options, motels, radar traps, radio stations, 24-hour mechanics, ATM
machines, pet accommodations, golf courses and places to shop, we’ve amassed 174 amazing new stories

| 1 - Chocolate Contest
|
|
FL Exit 350B and 261: Everyone in the car will enjoy participating in a moving chocolate contest. Start at the top of Florida, in Jacksonville, and sample their chocolate popcorn, a 20-year-favorite that put Peterbrooke Chocolatier (2024 San Marco Blvd. www.peterbrooke.com ) on the map. The combination of sweet, salty, crunchy and chocolatey is hard to resist. There are also chocolate pretzels and chocolate blueberries to sample and buy. Phone: 904-398-2488 or 800-771-0019.
In Daytona, head for Angel & Phelps Chocolate Factory (154 S. Beach St. www.angellandphelps.com Phone: 800-969-2634 or 386-252-6531) for some of their 80-year-old classics like chocolate covered potato chips (light or dark) and pretzels. Another homemade favorite is the made-from-scratch rocco, an award winning buttercrunch toffee/chocolate topped with almonds. There's even a free 30-minute guided tour. It will be hard to find a unanimous favorite.

| 2 - Thanksgiving Farm Day |
|
CT Exit 70: Each year, on the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving, Beaver Brook Farm in Lyme holds a “Farm Day” event with sheep shearing, spinning demonstrations, horse-drawn hay rides and free samples of meat and cheese. A yummy homemade lunch is available, including white bean chile, curry, lamb sausage sandwiches, mac and cheese, apple crisp and their own gelato for dessert. The 175 acre sheep and cow farm started out in 1917 as a dairy farm. In 1984 the same Sankow family (now run by Stan and Suzanne Sankow) introduced their first sheep, Sherry and Ding, to the farm. These days it is home to more than 400 sheep, some cows , a wool shop, farm market, cheese shop and butchery. The rest of the year the shops are open daily 9 am-4 pm and you are free to walk around and soak up the farm atmosphere. 139 Beaver Brook Road. Dates: November 24th and 25th. Hours of Farm Day: 11-4. www.beaverbrookfarm.com Phone: 860-434-2843

| 3 - Real Soda Jerk |
|
|
SC Exit 53 or 57: As early as 1784, Walterboro, SC was a summer retreat for nearby plantations. The main street in town, Washington St., sports a crushed seashell sidewalk along the newly defined Antique Row with the dozen or so shops. Get here before the place is discovered and the prices go up! After a walk, grab a counter stool at the 55-year-old Hiott's Pharmacy for a $.60 or $.80 real fountain coke - cherry or vanilla, too. (If you're there on the right morning, 79-years-young Eddie Hiott may be the soda jerk) www.walterboro.org Phone: 843-549-9595.

| 4 - Midnight Madness and Dawn Dizziness |
|
NC Exit 95 or 97: There is quite the party atmosphere before midnight here when lines start forming at Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield, NC for their Midnight Madness & After Thanksgiving Sale, their biggest sale of the year. Last year the lineups were down the mall at Yankee Candle and pretty long too at Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Pottery and Timberland. Some of the deals listed on the web site (there are many more in the stores) are: 50% off everything in the entire store at Bass, 20% off at Brooks Bros. and Easy Spirit gives you 30% off of one item. Additional holiday savings continue throughout the weekend. Dates: Nov 23-25. Hours: Midnight Thursday to Friday 10pm, Saturday 8am-10pm, Sunday 10am-8pm. Phone: 919- 989-8757. www.premiumoutlets.com
As if that weren't enough middle-of-the night shopping, the festivities continue at Walmart at 1299 North Bright Leaf Blvd. in Smithfield (always open 24 hours even on Thanksgiving!) which is having a rare sale starting at 5 am on November 23rd.
At Exit 318 in Florida, St. Augustine
Premium Outlets is having the same sale. Here, however, golfers will be lining up
for Ashworth-Callaway Golf’s buy one get one free deal. At Banana
Republic Factory Store, everything will be 40% off and at Aeropostale all will
be 50% off, plus shoppers will receive a free bear with a $100 purchase. Since
this mall is near the beaches, bathers can stock up here at Speedo for bathing
suits, at Totes/Sunglass Station, at WestPoint Stevens for a towel or Coach for a
beach bag, The Cosmetics Company Store to refresh after the sand, SAS Factory
Shoes, Skechers for comfy walking shoes or OshKosh B'Gosh for the kids. When
it's back to work, there's The Uniform Outlet.
